Bear's Carter Mug
Being inspired by music is nothing novel, but being able to emulate a late great giant in the hip-hop world is a privilege that I don't take lightly. If you’re familiar with the soundscape of the '90s neo-soul hip-hop scene, then you may be well acquainted with James Dewitt Yancey, also known as the late great J.Dilla.
His unique ability to curate heavy percussion, slightly offbeat, but perfectly fuzzy vibes for an eclectic array of artists from A Tribe Called Quest, Pharcyde, Common, Erykah Badu, and The Roots (to name just a few) has made J.Dilla a legend who left us way too early.
The reason for this history lesson is that a fun drawing of Jay Dee as a Peanuts character, mastering his techniques on the SP1200 in front of him, inspired my good friend, Avery Rodriguez, to reimagine this playful concept with coffee as the muse. Thus, this fun image was born.
And hopefully, you’ll spin some dope records while enjoying some tasty coffee under the umbrella of inspiration of a handful of artists who collaborated to put this dope #CarterCup together. Shout out to @theaveryrodriguez, @mariaodell, @onyxcoffeelab, and @officialjdilla for the inspiration. 🖤
